American Sign Language and Deaf Culture w/ Jessalyn Akerman-Frank

Sheboygan raised, Jessalyn Akerman-Frank, M.Edu, will be back in town to help us learn some sign language and to educate us about deaf culture.

All ages welcome!

Jessalyn Akerman-Frank, M.Edu; is a deaf, queer, woman and a graduate from Gallaudet University, the only Deaf University in the world and the U of Minnesota with a Masters in Special Education with a focus in Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

She is currently the Director of Community and Civic Engagement with the Commission of the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing.

She is the founder of two non profits, Deaf Equity and Minnesota Deaf Queers. She is the only Deaf Yoga teacher who teaches in the Midwest. 

A life-long teacher of American Sign Language and Deaf culture since representing Wisconsin as Miss Deaf Wisconsin, she is thrilled and humbled to be able to work with Kelly and WordHaven to teach Deaf Culture and American Sign Language in her beloved hometown.

Jessalyn was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and now resides in the Twin Cities with her wife, Lys, two young humans Sam (20) and Ben (17),  and fur babies, Zula Bear (10), Mabel May (5) and Mona Rue (3). All of her family still resides in Sheboygan, which makes it her family second home for summer vacations.
