October 19, 6-8 PM ($20): Character & POV

October 26, 6-8 PM ($20): Conclusion & the Power of Ambiguity

Week One (10/5): We will discuss the difference between gothic and horror, the dark history of gothic fiction, and the common themes and tropes used in successful gothic literature. Participants will choose their theme(s) and compose a synopsis for their writing.

Week Two (10/12): We will discuss the process of choosing a landscape that you (and your readers) can get to know well, then how to transform that landscape into a unique setting that is easily removed from reality. Participants will then cultivate the setting for their own writing.

Week Three (10/19): We will discuss character development, experimenting with points of view, and the strong psychological element to gothic fiction. We will discuss how to maintain the unease throughout your story. Participants will dive deep into their own writing process.

Week Four (10/26): We will discuss how gothic fiction is concluded, and the power of ambiguity. Participants will leave with a completed short story, which may then be developed into a full length novel.

ALSO: 1 day intensive on Saturday, October 28th, 10-2 PM ($40)
