Used to categorize poetry concerned with environmental issues, the term “ecopoetics” at its roots translates to “dwelling-making.” In this poetry workshop, we’ll write poems that think about what it means to make homes amidst the increasing impacts of climate disaster. We’ll also talk about what makes ecopoems different from nature poems, the power of naming in response to extinction and loss, and ways to advocate for nonhuman worlds in our writing. All levels of poetry experience welcome!
