Practical Journalism: Structuring the Story w/ Jennifer Walter ($15) (In-person OR Virtual)

Want to write stories that grab people’s attention? It’s all about structure! Journalists use many organizational tools to make their stories appeal to prospective readers. We’ll talk about how to employ ledes, nut grafs, and inverted pyramid structure to streamline a story’s beginning and allow the rest of it to flow naturally.

Even if you’re not interested in news reporting, story structure is important for all kinds of writing such as fiction, personal essays, or even cover letters for jobs. Being able to present important information in a concise and compelling way helps convince people that your story is worth reading.
